OVERVIEW
Lima, the capital of Peru, was founded in 1535. Within a short time it has transformed into the most important city of America. Today there are more than 8 million inhabitants and it hosts immigrants from all parts of the world. This made the city to an international first-class city. The historical center of Lima was announced as UNESCO world heritage. You will find prestige evidence of colonial architecture such as the cathedral, the Convent of Santo Domingo and the Convent San Francisco, such as wonderful wooden balconies with carvings. This city is also an exhaustless source of culture. The great quantity and variety of museums, such as the Museo Nacional de Arqueología (National Museum of Archaeology), Antorpología e Historia (Anthropology and History) and the Museo Arqueológico Rafael Larco Herrera (archaeological museum Rafael Larco Herrera), which own treasures of the Incas and pre-Incas of countless quality are proving this fact.
You will find impressive archaeological monuments such as the Huaca Huallamarca or the Huaca Pucllana just in the center of Lima. In the greater Lima area, along the coast you will find the Pachacámac, a pre-Inca sanctuary, the most important at the coast, created in the III century A.D. The beaches of the city are definitely among impressive attractions of the city, where you can do water sports, enjoy the sun or just enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Ocean. This city offers a great variety of restaurants and hospitable places, where you will be able to try the great variation of dishes, which are a result of European, African and Chinese influences, mixed with the Andean cuisine.
