Pirwa Hostel Machu Picchu is located in the heart of Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes), at the end of Pachacutec Avenue near the natural hot springs. Stay for a night and be able to visit the sanctuary in the early morning hours and enjoy a stunning sunrise.
Our backpacker's hostel offers both dormitory accommodations, private double rooms (either twin or matrimonial), and triple rooms, some with private bathrooms and some with shared bathrooms. The recently renovated youth hostel has spacious rooms with large windows boasting expansive views.
Those who have arrived via the Inca Trail or other footpaths will appreciate the comfortable beds and 24hr hot showers to soothe their muscles, as well as the proximity to the naturally heated sulfurous Thermal Baths from which Aguas Calientes got its name and the opportunity to socialize with other travelers while lazing about the TV lounge.
Despite the small size of Aguas Calientes, if you've got some free time you do have some options aside from the hot springs. Gain a more nuanced appreciation for the ruins of Machu Picchu at the fascinating though often overlooked Manuel Chávez Ballón Site Museum, which will introduce you to Inca construction methods and the history of the Lost City's archaeological excavations and their findings. Once you have an understanding of the structures themselves, you can learn about the flora of the area, especially the orchids, at the Botanical Garden right by the museum, or learn about the butterflies of Machu Picchu Sanctuary at the Butterfly House. You can explore some rainforest paths at the Ecological Center or Mandor Gardens, keeping an eye out for exotic birds and flowers as well as a small waterfall, or attempt to climb Putucusi Peak for an overview of the Urubamba River and Machu Picchu.
While you are exploring Aguas Calientes or discovering the mysterious Lost City of Machu Picchu, you won't need to worry about your valuables or travel documents safely tucked away in security lockers. Nor will you need to be worried about your arrival time, as there is always someone from our friendly staff at reception. Once you've experienced the extensive and humbling ruins of Machu Picchu, our in-house travel desk can help you with arrangements for the next leg of your Peruvian adventure!
If you're looking for cheap accommodation in Aguas Calientes that doesn't sacrifice comfort, Pirwa Hostels Machu Picchu is the place for you.

The best-known segment today of the extensive Inca road system is the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. By far the most captivating method of Machu Picchu, trekkers are limited to 500 a day to prevent further deterioration of the trail. Beginning along the Urubamba River, trekkers ascend through the cloud forest to jungle, passing viewpoints overlooking the Sacred Valley, as small settlements give way to scattered sites of Inca ruins, carved stairways and tunnels, and finally, Machu Picchu.

Hiram Bingham III was a lecturer at Yale University fascinated by the idea of unexplored Inca cities in Peru. In search of the Lost City and last Refuge of the Incas, Vilcabamba, he was led to Machu Picchu by local farmers in 1911. Other locals, Cusco explorers, and European missionaries already knew of the site, but it was Hiram Bingham who cleared the centuries of brush, excavated the ruins, and introduced them to the world through a special edition of National Geographic and 2 books.

Upon arrival to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), trekkers can relieve their sore muscles in the thermal baths from which the town got its name and which are long- believed to have medicinal properties. These small sulfurous pools 8 blocks, or 15min, from town average 38ºC-46ºC and are equipped with changing rooms, bathrooms, and a small snack bar cafeteria. Swimwear, sandals, and towels are mandatory but can be bought or rented in the vicinity along with other necessities like sun block.

The high Andean rainforest of Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary boasts an astonishing amount of diversity which includes more than 90 classes of orchids differentiated into more than 200 species. Also endemic are plants like the pisonay, q'eofia, aliso, and puya pal trees. To familiarize yourself with the area's flora visit the botanical garden across from Manuel Chávez Ballón Site Museum. Its about a 25min walk from Aguas Calientes towards the base of the footpath leading to Machu Picchu.
